How did Highland Park in Ottawa begin?
Highland Park began in 1898, when John E. Cole subdivided part of his family's Highland View Dairy Farm into building lots and advertised them in Ottawa newspapers. The Highland Park Lawn Bowling Club opened in 1914, Broadway (now Broadview) Public School in 1916 and Nepean High School in 1922.
As of · Updated
By 1944 Highland Park reached west to Denbury Avenue, though many lots beyond Broadview were built only after the war. In 1948 the city took land on Cole Avenue for what is now Westboro Kiwanis Park, and the Dovercourt Recreation Centre opened there in 1987.
